Is North Geelong Secondary College stealing their new uniform?

In 2010 North Geelong Secondary College revealed plans for a new school uniform. Students got wind of the plan and accused the school of stealing the uniform design used by another school.

is North Geelong stealing?

well, we all know the rumor that North Geelong is changing their uniform from bland of green, white and brown to something a little spicier, using the color’s red, black and white.
But, is North Geelong, the school of many talents stealing?
The picture above indicates that the uniform that was chosen specifically for ‘NGSC’ is acually, the uniform of another school!!

The students got things half right. The uniform wasn’t stolen from Williamstown High School. But the winter skirt design is the same as Mt Alexander College.

Short skirts at St Columba’s College

Girls at St Columba’s College, Essendon have been warned that short skirts are not acceptable.

June 2017

http://www.columba.vic.edu.au/news/June-16-2017-St-Columba-s-Day-Uniform-and-Attendance-

The College has noticed an increase in the number of students not wearing their uniform properly. We have also noticed that winter skirt lengths have shortened as the term has progressed and students have grown.

Can I ask that parents have a conversation with their daughter regarding uniform regulations and College expectations outlined on page 11 of the College Planner. We ask for your support and assistance in rectifying uniform issues.

September 2017

Our aim as a College is that all students arrive in the morning in correct uniform, unfortunately, this is not always the case.

This year we have seen a marked improvement in students wearing their blazer to and from school. However, the winter skirt length is still an issue as students are rolling up their skirt to make it shorter. The winter skirt must be worn knee length. The definition of knee length is the bottom of the winter skirt reaches the knee cap when a student is standing. If your daughter’s hem has been cut previously and no longer has a hem available to lower please organise a replacement.

We ask you, as parents, to support the College in this issue. Parents are asked to contact their daughter’s House Leader if they have any concerns.

New uniform at King David School

King David School introduced their current school uniform in mid 2012. An 18 month transition period followed, finishing at the end of the 2013 school year. The old style uniforms were collected and donated to a school in Africa.

December 2012

The second half of 2012 has seen the fruition of over 2 years of work by the members of the uniform committee with the introduction of the new uniform. The new uniform is consistent with the values of the School. It is modern, comfortable and emphasises gender equity.

A planning committee was set up, comprising parents, teaching staff, senior management and a consultant. Feedback about uniform preferences were canvassed from parents and students and taken into account in the design of the new uniforms.

The new uniform is smart and fits the profile of the direction in which The King David School is heading through this next chapter. Modern and with clean lines, the new uniform hopes to reflect a sense of pride about being a King David student.

This has been a big undertaking and the process has been supported by the uniform shop manager. A big thank-you to the uniform committee and for hours and hours of ongoing work.

Students have until the end of 2013 to transition out of the old uniform, after which all students will be required to wear only the new uniform. We know our students will wear the new uniform with pride.

The Ducere Foundation together with King David are helping the plight of some of the poorest children. Old school uniforms will be donated to a primary school in Zambia. Zambia is one of the poorest countries in the world and has the highest concentration of orphans in the world. The majority of the population live on less than $2 a day.

Posters have been put up on all campuses as well as collection bins to facilitate collection of the old uniforms. The King David Parents’ Association who run the Uniform Shop will also donate the brand new, unsold uniforms that are no longer needed as we transition into our new uniform.

MacRob schoolgirls fret about short skirts

Summer uniform at Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School consists of a checked dress, plus a blazer and jumper. These girls have shared some tips on how long their dress should be, ways to make it shorter, and ingenious ways to prevent the boys from Melbourne High sneaking a peek under it on windy days. 😉

Q: Hey thanks for your help about the skirt length. I guess it was only when it was windy and my skirt was blowing up that I felt was indecent as my shorts were visible. Uniform is comfortable for me but from your experiences is there anything else that could be more comfortable, eg substitutes for shorts or just anything generally that you have learnt about uniform over the years that you could pass down. Thanks so much :):) xx love your work fam

A:

Hey anon,

I totally get what you mean. I tend to wear bike shorts under my dress which come to about mid-thigh, so longer than boy shorts but can’t be seen below the hemline of the dress normally. If it’s windy and your skirt blows up but you’re wearing shorts, don’t worry about being indecent, it’s not! It’s very decent 🙂

That’s probably it, you’ll find you get used to wearing the uniform soon enough.

Love FAM

PS If anyone is reading this and thinking ‘oh no I don’t wear shorts under my dress!’ don’t worry, it’s just about what you feel comfortable with. Most girls prefer to wear shorts or something like it under their dresses because it feels more comfortable, but you don’t have to!

Q: In terms of dresses, how short is too short?

A: Hello anon,

If you look in your school planner, there should be a section on school uniform and how to wear it. Usually the shortest you can get away with is mid-thigh (that might be cutting it a bit too fine). To be honest, girls do have their dresses way higher than that and really, if your skirt is shorter than your blazer – i think we can deem it ‘too short’.

25 July 2017

Q: Hey guys!!!! Thanks so much for answering all these questions for us the next gen! Just wanted to know what would you reckon is an appropriate dress/skirt length? From observation some girls wear it really short and others maybe below the knee, so what’s the “norm.” Is it ok to be a bit less conservative when we aren’t in the school environment, for example like the junior social or something? How much leg are we allowed to show and should we wear an extra layer like shorts underneath? ty! x

A: Hi love,

In terms of “proper” skirt length, the uniform guide at the front of the diary says just above the knee. Outside of the uniform though you should feel free to where you’re skirt at whatever length you feel comfortable in, whether that be longer or shorter. Wearing shorts is a good idea if you’re worried about the length being too short or the skirt flipping up (say in the wind or when sitting down), and can often make doing something more physical easier.

And we’re glad we’re helping! Thanks for sending in the nice message 🙂

Love,

FAM xx

11 September 2017

Q: term 4 is coming up. AHH my summer dress is sooo long and my parents won’t let me take it up. HOW CAN I SHRINK IT?!?!

A: Hi there,

You could always hemm it up yourself, or, you could iron it so it’s shorter then put safety pins to keep it there.

Hopefully this helps!

Hey anon,

Hmmm, things about uniform I’ve learnt over the years … winter takes a bit longer to put on, so give it time. In the middle of winter when it’s really cold and you’re not going to take your jumper off all day, you can wear your pj top under your shirt- you’ll be extra warm and you can’t see it with the jumper on. Don’t undo your tie every night and do it again the morning, just loosen it. Check your uniform after not wearing it for half a year because you might have grown (and try not to do it the night before you have to wear it!). The last one is a bit weird, but I wear boy shorts on top of my tights in winter and this has been brilliant because then my tights don’t fall down!

That’s probably it, you’ll find you get used to wearing the uniform soon enough.

http://friendsatmacrob.tumblr.com/post/158698781582/this-might-seem-like-a-stupid-q-but-with-winter

22 March 2017

Q: This might seem like a stupid q but with winter uniform coming up just wanted to be prepared as it will be my first time! How do we wear our tights with the winter skirt? Are they worn up to the waist or? Never worn them before haha. Also I know in summer we have shorts underneath the dress so do we still need to wear them with the tights or are they unnecessary? Also
Hey there ☺

A: Don’t worry, it’s not a stupid question at all and I’m sure other year 9’s have been wondering the same thing. To answer your question, tights are worn with the waistband at the waist. Most Macrobbians tuck their shirts into their tights and then put their skirts on top. It’s up to you whether or not you wear shorts on top of your tights, but most girls do, especially if their tights are a little sheer.

Hope this was helpful,

http://friendsatmacrob.tumblr.com/post/159224139987/step-by-step-guide-on-wearing-the-winter-uniform

5 April 2017

Q: Step by step guide on wearing the winter uniform please ❤

A: Hey there 🙂

This is how I put on my winter uniform:

First I put on my white, stiff-collared shirt and button it up all the way to the top (because some teachers may tell you off otherwise).

Next I’ll pull on my tie and fold my collar over the top. I usually get my mum to tie it at the beginning of the week and just loosen it when taking it off so I don’t need someone to re-tie it for me every single day.

Then I’ll put on a pair of black ankle socks (just personal preference) and then my tights on top of that. If my tights are a little sheer I like to wear a pair of shorts over the top of them (but again, this is my personal preference).

Lastly I will put my skirt over the top and tuck my shirt into it before putting on my blazer and shoes. The jumper, beret and scarf are optional but are nice when you want an extra layer of warmth, especially while travelling to and from school.

If you are going to wear the pants, it’s pretty much the same steps except you would have to wear white socks instead of tights.

Don’t worry too much because the first two weeks of term will be a transition period where you can wear either your summer or winter uniform, so you have some time to get the hang of it. You’ll pick it up after a while just by looking at how the other students wear their uniform too. You can also find the uniform policy in the school planner. T-bar school shoes versus ballet flats

Girls at Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School are allowed to wear black t-bar or laceup shoes with their school uniform, but not other types, such as slip on ballet flats.

15 May 2009

Black lace-up leather school shoes, t-bar sandals may be worn but are not recommended for winter wear. Platform shoes, slip-on shoes or black sneakers are not acceptable

Is this MacRob girl jealous of her ballet flat wearing friend. Or are t-bars what she really wants to wear?
