Killester College, Springvale

Killester College in Springvale banned t-bar school shoes from Term 1, 2011 onwards. With brown shoes being required, various Harrison lace ups are the most popular, along with the various copycat brands.

We are reconsidering whether T-Bar shoes should continue to be an alternative to lace up shoes as part of the school uniform. Many of these shoes are often in disrepair, with broken buckles and soles which either separate from the rest of the shoe or become slippery underfoot. At minimum the shoes appear to raise safety concerns when they are not worn correctly or are in disrepair. If purchasing new shoes please purchase lace-ups. We hope to make a decision regarding school shoes during next term.

Last year I signalled that we were going to replace ‘T’bar shoes with lace up school shoes only. Please be advised that this will come into effect in 2011. In the meanwhile we ask that as new shoes are purchased parents choose lace ups. The safety issues concerning ‘T’ bars, including broken buckles, continues to prove a safety risk for students. This can easily be avoided by wearing lace ups.

If you have to buy new school shoes for your daughter, please buy lace ups, as T-bars and other varieties are not to be worn next year.
